THEATRE PERFORMANCE CLASSES
My mother always said she knew I was a dancer when I was still in her womb. She could feel me reacting to music in the world I had yet to encounter firsthand. But the music was able to reach where nothing else was able to. Growing up, I could move to the beat of the turn signal or a leaky faucet. Fortunately for me, my mother brought me to dance class; a wonderful place with large mirrors and all that amazing empty space and so much better than a supermarket aisle where I previously practiced my art. I was home. There I learned how to walk, run, leap, twirl, and land effortlessly. Sometimes there were taps on my shoes, sometimes a lambswool pad, but this sacred place is where I learned to carry myself “like a dancer.” I also found my people - other dancers who simply had to dance.
So to be a well-rounded theater, we must offer dance. Dance for those who simply must dance, those who want better posture, more strength, greater flexibility, and those who want to learn an artistic discipline.
Under the tutelage of Katie Bissinger, we will offer ballet, dance for musical theater, and tap for all ages and all experience levels. Katie, like me, simply must dance. Her passion for dance goes past a classroom and onto a stage. She wants to teach her students how to be dancers. Taking dance class is very different from being a dancer. Dancers take what they learn in front of the mirror and perform for those sitting in an audience.
Along with a full compliment of acting and voice classes for students of all ages, this is the dance you will experience upstairs at Studio B at The Beacon.
